Football’s Square Mile & Association of Tartan Army Clubs Announcement

Tuesday, 9th June 2026

With the World Cup fast approaching, Scotland fans from the Mull of Galloway to the Shetland Isles are quizzing each other to predict the scores for Scotland's Group stage matches, with games against Haiti, Morocco, and the mighty Brazilians.

This epic transatlantic adventure is the result of one of the greatest games in Scotland’s footballing history, against Denmark in November last year, which kicked off with that spell-binding, world-record-breaking, overhead kick from Scott McTominay.

This famous bicycle kick has been immortalised by Ashley Rawson, one of Glasgow’s trailblazing contemporary artists, who has designed the ultimate national team predictor - The Scott McTom-O-Meter. This gives everyone an opportunity to spin ‘Scott’ to predict whether Scotland will ‘Win, Lose, Draw, or Boogie’.

Ashley has teamed up with Football’s Square Mile and The Association of Tartan Army Clubs to commission this amazing artwork, which will be housed at Glasgow Central Train Station.

Ashley Rawson said, "I’ve been doing a few social commentary pieces like ‘Unexploded Vape’ and ‘Doomscroll’ lately. As a fun summer vacation from that theme, I decided to do an art installation that put a new ‘spin’ on ‘that’ Scot McTominay goal.

‘The Scott McTom-O-Meter’ has a few other influences, too. It’s a modern-day tribute to Paul the Octopus, who famously predicted results in the 2010 World Cup. It’s also loosely based on those fabulous Blue Peter Appeal totalisers I remember from when I was small.

My dream is that ‘The Scott McTom-O-Meter’ will predict a string of victories for Scotland and that folks will come along to Glasgow Central and give it a spin for themselves. Whether his golden boot lands on ‘Win, lose, draw, or Boogie’, we all know that if there’s no Scotland, there’s no party!"

When the top secret design was put under the noses of both the Football’s Square Mile Team and the Association of Tartan Army Clubs (ATAC), they did not hesitate to commission it.

Martin Riddell, Chair of ATAC, explains, “The Association of Tartan Army Clubs is delighted to provide funding to bring the Scott McTom-O-Meter to life. This is an iconic pose that will live long in the memory for the Tartan Army. It is now etched in the psyche of our nation and allows Scotland fans to puff their chests out with pride, knowing it was the catalyst for our return to the world football stage after such a long absence.

Ashley has created a reminder of a magical evening at Hampden that will provide joy and provoke football memories for everyone who passes by it over the summer. Win, lose or draw, we'll support you ever more.”

The Football’s Square Mile Team is always looking for opportunities to bring football history to life for all, and champion Scotland as the birthplace of the beautiful game. When the World Cup opening ceremony begins, we will be thinking back to those trailblazing Scotch Professors, who created and hosted International Football Match No. 1, held at West of Scotland Cricket Club in Partick, Glasgow, on St Andrew’s Day, 1872, and then went on to take their ‘beautiful game’ around the world.

Graeme Brown, FSM Engagement Director, explains, “Ashley’s work is always thought-provoking and inspiring - no more so than the 1st Hampden Mural, which brought to life the importance of that site. So when we saw this McTom-O-Meter design, we spoke to ATAC, one of our Football’s Square Mile Alliance partners, and paired up to bring the ‘Scott McTom-O-Meter’ to life for all football fans to enjoy.

It felt to us like Scott McTominay was up in the air for 10 minutes during that overhead kick, and this is a brilliant way to remember that amazing moment while spinning our own predictions. We can’t wait to see the fans’ reactions, from those departing for America to those enjoying the games at home. The excitement is building, and we are delighted to play a part in creating a memorable moment for everyone to enjoy.”

The Scott McTom-O-Meter will be sited at Glasgow Central Train Station from Tuesday, 9th June, at 2pm, and will remain there throughout the tournament. We encourage everyone to give it a go, and, most importantly, to take photos and videos of their predictions, and help spread the word to the world about another example of why it’s so important that Scotland is at the party.
